‘Pairs’ project

04/11/2019

How have we ensure a successful collaboration?

We were come up with making an animation by using the Telly robot family as a main character story going to be about the world are not stopping why we have to?!. Then we figure out that we might not have enough time to carry with all the stuff in the animation we don’t know how to edit and who could we were asking help for and the project brief was mention. We don’t have to have an outcome and also photoshoot using the projector like the way Paik used on his exhibition were our second choice. Still, when we are discussing about it’s we don’t really likes it. So we heading back to our first ideas we were thinking about we gonna carry on with it by changing it to tale story instead.

Create an action plan to approach exploration of ideas.

Me and Ellie’s we were planning to make an ideas generation starting by a storyboard based on the robots, life nowadays. I have an idea of making a story which makes the audience got involved, and also I am trying to answer my reflective questions, so I don’t feel like I am procrastinating. We also look at how we are going to display the work we chose making a tale story as a starting point we like to start to draw the things we were gathering from the exhibition playing around with the shape, colour, texture and the display. We are also planning of making collages from our tale story and trying to find the placement of the outcome we might use the acetate and projector to project our pictures and then draw on the fabrics and experiment with the different stationery.

What was one practical thing that you have learned by seeing your peers work? How do I want to take it forward?

As I walk around the room to have a look, I think my peers work look so good. It’s organised and neat. Lots of 3D samples and garments I think I would like to spread out my work a little bit on my sketchbook as it’s a bit too crowded it feels like my work was fighting for a better position at the moment so I think I should spread it out and make it more organised.

What’s successful in your project so far?

As we are drawing a Telly robot family storyboard, collages and storyboard in the sketchbook we both feel like it looks too flat on the sketchbook we would like to use the different sources of the material like Nam June Paik did in his exhibition. We were thinking about using the wire to create a robot character in 3D as the tutor come around and suggest us to make a mobile from Calder to make it moving, so it’s didn’t stand there dull. Still, we couldn’t find out how to make it moving; to be honest, we couldn’t manage to make it strong enough to stand still.

What are the three possible outcomes for your project?

We went back to the storyboard. We continued working on the collages to make a pattern if we had enough time we would experiment on the pouch, tote bag or the Different Tee type of the garments. So we could get to know which should we place our in or shall we leave it like that. Also, the second choice it’s we would make a photo book using our patterns to project on the walls into the body, but I feel it might be too flat and waste lots of time it might not give out the best outcome. Our last plan is to make a massive instalment of a robot family, and a short tale storey stuck in a wall or placed on the big screen TV around the room make it as a public space. It seems like the unlikely plan that could happen now due to we need a team, a big company which could support us that’s would be sick! For now, I'll better leave it to the future.

After we finished the project and we display the work. We don’t have enough time to gives the feedback to others pair, and also we don’t have any input to due to the lack of times. I think our work don’t have much of involved it would be nice if we had more time for this so we could figure this out. Also, it’s a bit too flat to look at a bit because there were not that 3D things outside the sketchbook.

Do you think your primary research support to your work?

Yes, I think I'm happy about my primary research. It’s a perfectly clear image that I could work with, and I am so thankful for myself that I decided to keep the ticket and the brochure from the exhibition. It help me a lot through the project I even cut the catalogue to put in sketchbook.

What have you learned from your pair collaborate?

The good thing it’s I learned how to think in her ways. Something I think it’s cool, but she might not feel as cool as I thought. It’s also teaching me how to see things from a different perspective. Even when I got stuck, I have her to talk to, to discuss with and we figure it out together. I am afraid of working with people who I never spoke to. It’s were more excellent than I expected to work with someone. We might not be close, but we tend to get on well. When we have new ideas, we talk, and we generate the ideas and giving the best we could through this project.

I forgot to take a photo of the final outcome.

Group manifesto

What’s the brightest colour in your wardrobe? Is it bluer pink, green, maybe red? Do you like it? Doesn’t make you feel beautiful?

But how beautiful can you feel knowing that the same dyes that made that clothing are polluting our oceans and seas?

Do you like to party? How long does it take you to get dressed?

How did you choose your costume? How often you wear it? Once, twice?

How many high heels do you own? High heels can make us feel sexy and empowered but behind these shoes are women on another side of the world working endless hours for low pay, unhygienic sweatshops. If you don’t buy it will you remember it in 6 months?

12/11/19

How have you dealt with the challenges of working as a team?

There are no issues for me as working as a team but I do prefer to working on my own. I would say the things I feel might be unfair for us at first. We are a group of three when there were a group of four or five in our course. I think it might be hard for us to finish work on time. It’s actually better than I thought when we on a smaller group tend to have less problem. I do think it will be a disaster if one of us didn’t show up. Luckily when we had something we always tell each other which is nice that we can figure it out together. I would say no matter what when we working as a group the best thing to do is we had to communicate frequently so we know how each other doing.

What are the benefits of working in a group?

Sometimes It’s nice when you have to share the work with. Sharing the problem that we had while we working together. It’s also taught me how to think in different ways. When we have a different background we do have a different way of thinking. It’s like I am stepping out of my comfort zone. Looking at things in a different spot which is nice when we gathering the ideas. They might come with the ideas that I would never think of and also when we work as a group it also forces me to speak English which might help my third languages skills too.

Create a plan of action for the next two days

As I had been said that me and Jannah couldn’t be in the studios tomorrow. We decided to stay longer in studios to finish our banners. We finished at 7ish I guess. When I got home I completely do nothing. It sounds so lazy but actually it’s nice when you letting yourself have a little break. We finished our banner before the peers and we planning to start to develop it on Thursday as the timetable. It seems to be a good plan for now.

Developed Banner onto body

14/11/19

Have you researched the symbol you have used?

Yes on my way back home I saw a STOP sign on the side of the road which is in triangle I think I would we nice to put in on a flag. We do want to go against fast fashion It’s a sign to stop buying stuff you don’t need.

Do you stand by your outcome? Will you defend or change?

I like it as a banner. When we develop in onto the body it harder to see the text “SLOW” that we trying to represent. If I had more time I would like to do something which is three of us got involved with the banner.

IMG-2061.jpg.1                 "MULTIPLES"

I once start using only Paperclips to be the main character of the project. Everything seems fine until I re-read the brief and also the titles of the project called "Multiples" then I started to think I should be inclusive more material and gathering found object.

19/11/19

As we were asked to bring five items. I did bring random stuff I found interested in the kitchen, such as; Sponge, aluminum foils, and stuff. I started to fold the chiffons, but it doesn't stay still. It's so slippy which I had an idea on the BIANCA SAUNDER project. I use the heat gun to create the texture on the fabric. I use that kind of cloth again and using the heat gun to create a composition. Cleaning foil stands out on the chiffon, I close it with the paper clip and knots it with the thread.

20/11/19

IMG_2097.JPG

21/11/19

My main purpose for this project using the found object. I start to look around my room to source the material that I could work with. I found a bag of scrap fabric from my previous project I trying to use two different shade of colour on the memory foam fruit wrap. I found the bright colour work better than the dark one so I decided to use a bright colour which is orange for this project.

25/11/19

IMG_2132.JPG

26/11/19

I make a mark-making based on the shape of paperclips. I might develop it on the fabric or underneath. It's nice to gather ideas together. It makes me see a clearer picture in my head. Today work is bit behind than yesterday work. That's what i am worried about I couldn't finish the work on time. I have to organise my time more neatly to prevent handed in the work on time.

28/11/19

When the tutor told us to start display our works. I looked around I found out that lots of peers work have come in a big scale of samples. I've been told to make a banner for my samples to make it stand out. There was half an hour left I start to make a plate for my samples. Everything went well and I am happy about how I display my work. Thanks to Suzanne for guide me to make a plate for my samples because it's quite small. I do think that it's would be better if I had more time to do the samples I would like to combine more material together. Last thing to tell myself is "WORK SAMPLES OUT OF SKETCHBOOK" because their lots of samples I want it to be displayed and there is not enough time to make a new one.

Hard drop repeat technique

I've learned how to make the repeat pattern from Naomi. Personally I think it a very good session because I used to think about how to make a fabric from a small scale. I question how it going to connect properly. After the session when I am following the tutor by this technique is kinda answering the questions I've got. Even though one of my design are not properly connected due to the photocopy couldn't catch all of my design on one page which kind of annoyed me. When I tried to photocopy it a few time the result was still the same.

4/12/19

I merge a lino print above together. Change a transition, adjust the colour and stuff. I wanted to carry on with the garment. I sent the design to Contrado to print out for me. so I could carry on with the work by developing into the body.

So far so good. I like the way my design are shown on the screen. I might like it even more when it comes into fabric or I might not like it at all.

5/12/19

After a Crit with Suzanne, She asked me about why I only look at the King cross station. As the brief is mentioned about the area which means it has to be the area not just one place in that area. Which is made me so shocked because is so last minute. I admit that my perspective for this project is so wrong. I thought it would be better to focus on one area. The lack of understanding of the brief lead this project to not a very successful outcome.

17/12/19

I think magenta might be too vibrant for the print. it looks like both of it were having a fight to get a very best spot for itself. I trying to use a darker colour to make it contrast with the print. It's turned out better than I thought. But I still have a feeling that I could push it furthermore so i'll probably trying to drape with some more material.

16/12/19

Presentation 5.003.jpeg

18/11/19

After the draping, I had a feeling that I don't like it but I don't hate it. I feel I could do something more but I can't figure out what the problem. it's really hard for me to think right now. I don't have any plan. That's not very successful for me in this project. I don't know what to think what should I do to make the work look better.

19/12/19

I had a little break for myself. I'm going out to meet my friend. I feeling a bit better than yesterday. I guess the garment would look better if it had a thin stainless, to hold it still and I could create a shape from it. The old ones were too flat to flatter ny heart so it would be better if it had more curves. Like little cakes at the back like a wedding dress.

IMG_4841.JPG

7/01/2020

After we split up to work on our own. I come up with an ideas of looking at where I spent time with the most and the picture I took mostly on the phone. I also looked at my like activity on Instagram. Most of the thing I look at above is related to precious creatures which are "Dogs"

Also, I don't really cook recently so I look at my Deliveroo orders and I had an ideas of using a dog treat in my work. I wanted to use human food too but I am afraid it gonna stink.

I had an ideas of comparing food that bad for dogs but a human might not know. They will acknowledge that sometimes their loves of dogs could hurt their loved one too.

Shouldn't eat

IMG_4843.JPG

9/1/2020

I still stick with the ideas of comparing the difference between dogs food and human food. In another hand, I feel it way too complicate to make me put in on my work. I start with the dogs treat I had it from Tesco. It seems to goes well but the struggles are really the smell of the treat kills my nose. But that just the only issue I had.

Also, the moment I look at my dog picture and smell of the treat I had a feeling that I am home. I used to remember when something really bad happens to me when I was so small, There's someone trying to hurt me My dog is the one who runs to protect me and had a fight with them and it leaves them a scarth mark on their both arms.

14/01/2020

Sometimes when my house having a party. I need to put my dogs on a cage. I am not happy to put them in those small spaces because I know they want to be free not in a very tiny places. It's even more dramatic when there are six of them have to stay on small cages. It's allowing me to think about the capacity of the space. Like put one thing inside the bag and there's no way to get out.

Pairs project description

The pair project- We are looking into the relationship between humans and technology how we are all being very robot in our way of life. We want to make it into some cartoon and to work to find and place for it, whether that is on the body on in the outside world. We have taken inspiration from Nam June Paik where we sort his exhibition together at Tate Modern. Our objectives for today to finalise our storyboard and the message that we want to talk about — finding a placement experiment with acetate to project onto the body or surroundings. We aim to come up with a more in-depth idea and finding a place for it to be an outcome.

04/11/2019

Name three ways to develop your primary research.

Collages are the method I find it works well with me. I want to develop my ideas by pictures the work I saw at the exhibition, and also the drawings is the right things to start with. It makes me and the audience could see the picture clearly when looking at it and the last one it colour scheme is good because it also exaggerates the ideas of the artists I am looking at, and it’s also useful for me too to make the colour palette for the project which I could make the colour had more meaning.

For your favorite possible outcome, what resources would you need, materials, skill, workshop access, cost, time?

We were working on the project and we like to use our collages work to be print on the fabric i found Contrado do a fabric printing but unfortunately we figure out this ideas when it a bit too late to get it ready for thursday. While i am working on my sketchbook i saw the ancient Tv were drawn on to it screen i likes the ideas of drawing on something translucent that’s made me thinking of draw the collages on the raincoat. As i started to draw it actually harder than i thought because the raincoat wouldn’t stay still and also i think i need kinda thicker layer like acrylic but there’s out of color in my place. The color i’ve got it too pale to be on the raincoat so i decided to used the metalic marker on top of the pattern so i would stand out and as the same as Piak draw on the screen. It’s would be nice if i had more budget so i could get the acryric color and a time to get it done more neatly.

06/11/2019

We were having a guest coming for the contextual studies. Both of them are in their finals year I find they talk handy as a CSM  foundation student. There were so inspired me not to feel bad about myself. Everybody made a mistake. I'll find something that I like or something I might hate. If the beginning it’s terrible, it’s doesn’t mean it is going to ruin your entire life. Keep manipulate, keep doing the work. When the time it right it going to be your time.

Also, we have to do a little bit of activity as we have to answer the personality question together. Me and Ellie’s we kind of work and think similarly. That might be a reason why we are getting on quite fast. We do disagree on the point that we made, but we never let our emotion lead us. Respect is the biggest key. That’s the things that I appreciate on this project is not we have to be the best in the class we have to be the best that we could be.

  • What are the most important issues to you as a group?

As working on a group people in my group were someone who I known before we were on the same class before so we kind of knew how the way each other work but there was just only three people in our group which I find it quite challenging because we have to deal with the time. It’s forced us to work faster than others. Luckily we had lots in commons when we share the ideas we respect each other. We always listen to each other ideas and leave the comment. We do have a bit of an issue with the language sometimes I had news ideas but I can’t make people understand what I am talking about.

  • What message do you want people to understand from your work?

I am the one who used to bought lots of clothes when I figured out there was a second huge impact pollution to the world it makes me questioning myself while I am want to buy new clothes. This topic mostly related to my behaviour before. This project aimed to encourage people to buy less, make it last and also introduced renting programmes to people who might not know about this service. It’s a nice thing when you can wear new clothes every day but the world will feel better when you’re not hurting them. Eg; buy from local, renting, charity shop, donate instead of disposing.

  • How do you want people to feel when they look at your work?

The main point to this project were I want the audience to start thinking of what they buy, thinking about sustainability. Feeling guilty when they buying lots of stuff they don’t need. How the world would change with less carbon. Start to renting the clothes.

Did you research;

Meaning of colours

To be honest I did not research the meaning of colour. Our primary colour seem to be seen a lot in a restaurant or something which is related to the food. I noticed that I saw these three colour a lot on the street such as traffic light, stripes on the road, bus sign and stuff.

Did you use another language?

I only use the word “SLOW” on our banner due to our manifesto is about fast fashion which is kind of twisted the word onto the opposite side. Actually we plan to use “STOP” instead but we think we didn’t do much on change things from our research as we got inspires from the sign on the street. The reason why we only use English because it faster to deliver to the audience due to is an international language. If we took this banner forward it might be in another language to put in the single country around the world. We can change the language to be part of the country by then.

Contextual Studies

Ben Sumpter's Work

His work makes me feel engaged in his journey. I like the way how he combined the metalwork and knitwear together which makes me realised that I think too much when I start my sample that's why I only made a small number of samples. I should be relaxing more and don't think of anything while I am making it. not only just the small amount of samples but also my work did reflect my mood.

25/11/19

I've been bench doing lots of samples over the weekends. I figure out that it's better to have load of sample so you can choose the best one. It's a nice problem to have.

Mark making

27/10/19

There was a parcel sent to my flat. The giant bubble come to prevent breaking the stuff. I was thinking about how I could make samples. Which looks like a padded jacket. Then I have an idea of using the dutch tape to wrap around the bubble to make it stronger and it's turn out better than I thought. I used the orange thread to knot around to break down the dark colour. It's was successful using the found object to make samples for me.

"Your London"

In this project, my area is King cross. I focused on the King Cross Station Architecture. Worked By John McAslan & Partners. I look at the diagrid roof of the station meant to welcome the visitors. Thin steel weave together which designed done in highly technological computers. Which amazed me because I have never been actively academically in the architecture field. So I draw a structure of the things I've seen, and I convert a negative space of the structure into a colour blocking pattern in my design which I think it will look good when it becomes a print.

Lino Print

 IMG_2675.JPG.1IMG_2469.JPG

3/12/19

Since one of my design are not connected. I had an idea of why it has to be connected. So I randomly Use lino print on the fabric with a different hand tension so it reflects a different texture for me. It's also brought me back of how John Aslan & Partners designed the project using the computer. I had ideas of design a print on the computer as Aslan did. Another word to describe it is Digital Printing. Luckily I had a basis of how to use some programs of how to use Adobe Photoshop, illustrator and stuff.

Digital printing choices

13/12/19

Once the fabric had been printing out. It's colour lost a lot of saturated, seem to be fade doesn't look vibrant and not please with my eyes. After all, it's been a garment I decided I would like to carry this thing onto the body to see how it look like. My prediction for now is I think it might be too small to work on I might need an additional fabric to work on.

16/12/19

Presentation 5.002.jpeg

16/12/19

As I had said the fabric was not gonna enough for making clothes. It's my bad that I didn't plan it good enough. so it's size were too little and also I couldn't send it to the factory to print out at this time. Due to I couldn't afford it. my biggest struggles now it's with the cost of printing in the Uk, there were more than 5 times expensive than my own countries.

I decided it in the moment I saw the size of the fabric that I will have to use additional fabric. which I want to support my print out fabric for it to stand out and catch the eyes. I chose magenta because I feel that it had some connection with their colour but when I drape it. it turns out that I might be wrong because I feel the main character is not my print out garment. it turned out that magenta is the main.

"INWARD OUTWARD" "DENIM PROJECT"

As we have discussed in our group. Roxanna seems to be the one to have a clear picture of her research. She mentioned about the food waste during the Christmas break. While me and Jess we looked at our screen time. Her screen time is only 2-3 hours per day compared with mine which is more than her twice. Mostly my screen time spent on social media such as; Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Which is kind of addictive, but Jess spend most of her time on Vogue Runway application to practice her illustration? Me and Jess we think we kind of lack research.

I work on my samples during the weekend. Based on my stories when I was a little kid. My dogs are my Hero at that time. From that situation, I know my dog loves me and I wanna share it to the people who own a dog to know how much they love you. They always wait until u got home and play. Sometimes I admit that I don't have time to play with them but when I am thinking of these thing It makes me miss them even more.

When I am thinking of the Scarth mark on people. Based on our anatomy it would have had blood, muscles and fat. so I decided to put the different colours inside the fabric so it giving me a feeling of a variety of stuff on our bodies.

17/01/2020

I wish I could have more time so I could develop into the body. Also, I don't have a chance to play with more material such as liquid, human food and sweets.

Note to myself

Don't worry too much about the outcome.
Count 1 2 3 and then start doing it. If not, You will regret not doing it. If it turns out not what you expected just keep it as a lesson. Learn from ur mistakes!!!! Don't let worry controls you.
